School Context

Oxley Primary School is a rural school with a current enrolment of 67 children. Over the past three years the enrolment has risen from 54 students to the present number.  It is situated on the Wangaratta Whitfield Road in the picturesque King River Valley 11 kilometres from Wangaratta on the edge of the Oxley Township.

Oxley Primary School buildings consist of one single building containing three classrooms a library, office space and a staff room plus another relocatable that has been placed here two years ago due to the increase in student population.   Oxley Primary is also in charge of the running and staffing of the Mobile Area Resource Centre (MARC).

Oxley Primary School aims to give students a caring, stimulating and safe environment, where children can achieve their full potential.   This is achieved by:

Oxley Primary School has a strong focus on literacy and numeracy as these are the building blocks for the other Key Learning Areas.  There is a strong emphasis on technology to support the other subject areas. Since 2006 the school has progressively translated its curriculum from being CSF based to embracing the Victorian Essential Learning Standards.  Specialist teachers present the Library, Art and computer programs. The classroom programs are enriched through camps, excursions, musical performances and cluster activities.

Oxley Primary School is member of the Snow Road Cluster of Primary Schools. These schools are Milawa, Glenrowan, Whorouly, Carraragarmungee and Everton. The schools work together to provide a range of inter-school activities for students and staff.  Equipment is bought and shared through the cluster. 

Oxley Primary School places great value and emphasis on being a community school with everyone associated with the school aiming to provide the best opportunities for the students.  Many of the school facilities and equipment would have been able to be purchased without the help of our magnificent parent body.  Parents not only help with the fund-raising but also in classroom activities and excursions.  With this support the students, parents and teachers working together would not be able to achieve the results that have been achieved as far.

Oxley Primary currently operates with 3 classrooms with support from a teaching Principal;

• prep/1,2, 3/4, 5/6
  with a stable staff consisting of 6 teachers including principal, 1 integration aide and 1 SSO.  All staff have over 4 years experience at the school.
